Dear Reader,
I started this website with the aim of telling people about my sailing adventure this Summer, and having a centralised place to keep people up to date on my training progress and the race itself. For the few people I haven’t been banging on about it to, I am taking part in the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race (CRTWYR), sailing from England to Brazil Uruguay in August 2017.
I signed up to the race in November 2014 after having major spine surgery in the February of the same year following an accident, so this has been a long journey for me. I was not prepared in any way for the physical and mental trauma of my surgery, and struggled massively with my lifestyle change from being active, energetic and happy, to being bedridden, exhausted and miserable. As much as there are always people worse off than you and more difficult struggles being faced across the world, at that time, this was the worst thing in my world. You can more about this on the blog (post: 3 years).
I decided to combat this by using the race as a goal – something to work towards, something that would be a challenge for me, and something that would ultimately prove that the challenging period was temporary (and over) and that I am capable of achieving something physically and emotionally challenging again, this time through choice.
